2 TIMOTHY 1 & 2

To Timothy, my beloved son,
I'm writing this as a reminder;
Kindle afresh the gift of God
That's in you, as well as your mother.

Retain the standard of sound words
And guard the treasure within;
These things which you have heard from me
Entrust to faithful men.

Just follow my example,
Be willing to suffer with me
As a soldier, an athlete, a farmer,
So that all who are watching may see . . .

That we are willing to endure
All for the sake of the Word:
That even if imprisoned
We are faithful to the Lord.

Be diligent to present yourself,
Even though you're just a youth,
As a workman unashamed
Handling accurately the Word of Truth.

Avoid all worldly chatter
And further ungodliness;
Just stick to the things that matter
For then God will richly bless.

Be a vessel of gold and silver,
Not of wood and of earthenware.
Be ready, and useful, and sanctified,
And show everyone that you care.

Pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace-
Refuse ignorant speculations;
But be kind to all, able to teach,
Correcting gently those in opposition.

Be willing to be a bond-servant,
And to others be ready to tell.
For there's some in the snare of the devil:
Held captive to do his will.

Pray that they'll come to their senses,
The old, as well as the youth;
Perhaps God may grant them repentance
Leading some to the knowledge of truth.

Now, I just want to close this by saying
We're all "Timothys" in our own way;
And the commands the Apostle Paul gave him
Still applies to believers today.

2 TIMOTHY 3

In 2 Timothy 3 we are given
A list of ungodly men;
Their behavior and their lifestyle
Are totally steeped in sin:

They are lovers of self and money,
Boastful, arrogant, and proud;
Revilers, disobedient to parents,
And they mingle within the "church crowd". . .

Ungrateful, unloving, unforgiving,
Slanderers, without self-control;
They're brutal and haters of all that is good
To the devil they've given their soul.

They're traitors, headstrong, and haughty,
Lovers of pleasure, not God, are they;
Holding only a form of godliness
With deceit leading others astray.

The enter into various households
And captivate the weak;
They're unholy, men of depraved minds,
After sensual pleasures they seek.

Avoid these men who oppose the Truth
As to faith, rejected by God . . .
Their folly and progress will come to a halt
When someday they're exposed as a fraud.

All Scripture is inspired by God
And is profitable for doctrine;
Equipping, completing righteous men
Through reproof, correction, instruction.

2 TIMOTHY 4

And now we come to the last words
That the Apostle Paul did write;
Written from a cold, dark prison cell
With the Lord Jesus Christ as his light.

Preach the Word, in season and out,
Reprove, rebuke, and exhort
With great patience and instruction,
From God's grace do not fall short.

For the time will come they will not endure
When men from sound doctrine will turn;
Their ears will be tickled with fables and myths
But not wanting the Truth to learn.

But we must be sober in all things,
Enduring hardship for the sake of the Word;
Doing the work of an evangelist
Fulfilling the ministry for the Lord.

For I, Paul, am already being poured out
As a drink offering unto the Lord;
The time of my departure has come
But you keep on preaching the Word.

I have fought the good fight and finished the course,
I have kept the faith in every way;
And for me in the future a crown awaits
That the Lord will give me on that day.

Make every effort to come to me soon,
Beware of those in opposition;
The Lord is with me and strengthens me-
He truly is my salvation.

Greet all the others in the name of the Lord,
And come before winter, I pray;
The Lord be with your spirit . . .
Grace be with you each day

SERMON ON THE MOUNT
The following is similar
To the "Sermon on the Mount".
The words may differ somewhat
But the message still does count.
Blessed are the meek,
Blessed are the mild.
Blessed are those who come to me
As a little child.
Blessed are those who after
Righteousness seek first.
They will never hunger;
They will never thirst.
Blessed are all those who mourn
Never knowing, "Why?"
For the Lord will comfort them,
He will satisfy.
Blessed are those to others
They do mercy give.
In turn, mercy is given them
As long as they shall live.
Blessed are the peacemakers
Who avoid all kinds of strife;
For God will richly bless them
With a full, abundant live.
Blessed are the pure
In body, mind, and heart.
The inheritance of His wisdom,
God will to them impart.
Blessed are the persecuted,
To them much will be given:
The Kingdom of God belongs to them,
And a crown awaits in heaven.
Blessed the woman and the man
The above does well describe;
Whose trust is in the Lord alone
And in His promises abide.
